While it's possible to get your AOL emails through a web browser, most operating systems support an email client that can send and receive email through AOL. Macs, for example, can use the Mail app to open and send AOL email.

There are two ways to do this. One is to use POP, which fetches your messages for offline access so you can read all your new emails. The other is IMAP; when you mark messages as read or deleted messages, you see those changes reflected in other email clients and online through a browser.

How to Set up AOL Mail on a Mac

It's your choice which method you use, but neither one is difficult to configure because the Mail app comes preconfigured for AOL.

If you are a developer and want to know what to expect in macOS Sierra, here is how to install the developer beta Update February 7, 2017: Apple has just released macOS Sierra 10.12.4 beta 2 for developers. If you already have the macOS Sierra beta installed, head to Mac App Store > Updates and download away. Outlook not working with Sierra OS 10.12.4 I just upgraded my iMac to Sierra OS 10.12.4 Since then, Outlook 15.33 can't connect to the internet and will not quit. Please fix these problems, or I may be forced into Apple Mail. This thread is locked. You can follow the question or vote as helpful, but you cannot reply to this.

macOS Sierra is coming this fall with plenty of awesome new features that developers can take advantage of in their apps; as such, Apple is releasing early beta software so that developers can make their apps work seamlessly when the full operating system launches to the public.

Apple occasionally offers updates to iOS, watchOS, tvOS, and macOS as closed developer previews or public betas for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Mac (sadly, no public beta for the Apple Watch). While the betas contain new features, they also contain pre-release bugs that can prevent the normal use of your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, or Mac, and are not intended for everyday use on a primary device. That's why we strongly recommend staying away from developer previews unless you need them for software development, and using the public betas with caution. If you depend on your devices, wait for the final release.
